Filing in context
The Fuel injection system is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 7 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 16 Nissan notifications from 2001 in this archive. For scale, 1,797 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 9 months.
Defect
On diesel-powered vehicles equipped with a wet-type flywheel and operated frequently at speeds below engine idle, engine vibration causes early wear of the fuel injection quantity control lever and related components of the fuel injection pump. This reduces the fuel injection volume in the low-speed range. If very low-speed operation continues, engine speed drops further, inducing resonance in the flywheel. In the worst case, internal flywheel damage may occur, interrupting power transmission and rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, install an additional fuel control device to regulate fuel delivery in the very low-speed range, and replace the flywheel with a new part.
