Defect
On motorcycles, the throttle grip is improperly designed where it inserts into the handlebar pipe, allowing water to enter the joint. The water causes rust to form on the handlebar pipe, which prevents the throttle grip from operating smoothly. In the worst case, the throttle grip fails to return to the closed position and engine speed does not decrease.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the throttle grip and handlebar pipe with corrected parts.
