Filing in context

The Engine body is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 2 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 18 Honda notifications from 2024 in this archive. For scale, 2,401 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 3 years and 4 months.

Defect

In the engine unit, the bolts securing the drive gear to the crankshaft have insufficient durability. During hard acceleration, excessive stress concentrates at the bolt threads and may cause cracking. Continued use can cause the bolt to fracture, releasing the pulse rotor that detects crankshaft rotation. Loss of the pulse rotor signal disrupts ignition and fuel injection, causing the engine to stall. In the worst case, bolt fragments may become ingested and lock the engine.

Corrective action

Replace the drive gear mounting bolts on all vehicles with corrected parts. Because procurement of parts requires additional time, owners will be notified of the defect details now and contacted again once parts are available.
