Filing in context
The Ignition coil is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 9 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 15 Suzuki notifications from 2024 in this archive. For scale, 2,360 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year.
Defect
Due to inadequate manufacturing controls, some ignition coil high-tension cords were assembled with incorrect parts. Repeated flexing during vehicle operation causes the cord to crack. Continued use may result in a broken wire, causing the engine to stall and preventing restart. Additionally, if a cracked high-tension cord is exposed to water, ignition output may leak, damaging the vehicle speed sensor or throttle position sensor, and causing incorrect vehicle speed display or starting failure.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, inspect the ignition coil high-tension cord. If an incorrect part is found, replace the ignition coil assembly, including the high-tension cord, with the correct production part. If the vehicle speed sensor is found to be damaged, replace it with a new unit. If the throttle position sensor is found to be damaged, replace the throttle body with a new unit.
