Recall 1122850 — Engine Control Computer

Filed March 30, 2009 · Hino

Overview

MLIT filing number1122850
TypeStatutory Recall (government-mandated recall)
Date filedMarch 30, 2009
Manufacturer(s)Hino
ComponentEngine Control Computer
Production periodDecember 2005 — July 13, 2007
Vehicles affected139 units

Defect

The engine fuel control program is incorrectly calibrated. When low-viscosity winter diesel fuel is used, the program increases fuel injection volume and advances injection timing, raising combustion pressure. Incomplete combustion causes carbon deposition, which damages the pistons. Continued operation can result in engine failure and, in the worst case, render the vehicle inoperable.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, replace the engine control computer with the corrected part and replace the engine with a new unit.
