Defect
The boost hose used for charge-pressure control is manufactured to an incorrect length, causing the hose to kink and become blocked during installation. A blocked hose prevents charge pressure from being controlled at high engine speeds. Continued use causes charge pressure to rise abnormally, producing severe engine knock and, in the worst case, damaging the engine and rendering the vehicle inoperable.
Corrective action
Replace the boost hose on all vehicles with the corrected/revised part.
