Defect
The headlight switch in the turn signal switch assembly is improperly designed. Continued use in this condition causes wear on the switch's contact plate, increasing contact resistance. This may cause the switch to melt and emit smoke and, in the worst case, result in a vehicle fire.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, verify the vehicle identification number, then either replace the affected turn signal switch with the corrected part or add a relay.
