Filing in context
This notification is a joint filing by 2 manufacturers: Mazda & Suzuki.
The Turn Signal is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 21 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 3 Mazda notifications from 1994 in this archive. For scale, 298 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 9 months.
Defect
The dust-proofing design of the push-button hazard warning switch in the combination switch mounted on the steering column is inadequate. Continued use allows dust and foreign matter to enter the switch, causing the button to stick in the depressed position. In the worst case, electrical current may no longer flow to the turn signals, which share a circuit with the hazard warning lights, causing the turn signals to stop functioning.
Corrective action
On all vehicles, replace the combination switch with the corrected part.
