Filing in context

The Computer (Powertrain) is the most frequently cited component category in this archive, appearing in 15 of its 4,890 filings. This filing is one of 21 Honda notifications from 2018 in this archive. For scale, 2,669 of the 4,890 filings in this archive report a larger number of affected vehicles; the vehicles involved here were manufactured over a span of about 1 year and 4 months.

Defect

On vehicles equipped with a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission, the engine control unit (ECU) that governs gear shifting is improperly positioned. Repeated low-speed driving over extended periods causes heat from the engine to raise the internal resistance of components inside the ECU. This reduces the supply voltage to the inner shaft sensor and outer shaft sensor, triggering the warning light and preventing gear shifts. In the worst case, the clutch disengages, drive force is lost, and the vehicle becomes inoperable.

Corrective action

On all vehicles, add a sub-harness and reroute the power supply voltage circuit to the shaft sensors. Replace the inner shaft sensor and outer shaft sensor as part of the circuit modification.
